Broadband initiatives aimed at expanding access to high-speed Internet services in underserved and unserved areas of the State of kansas are managed by the Office of the Chief Information Officer, State of kansas.
Program for Broadband Grants
By giving grants to communications service providers who install broadband infrastructure that enables broadband service in specific service areas, the Office of the Chief Information Officer manages a broadband grant program that aims to decrease or eradicate underserved and unserved areas in the state. This program makes use of federal funds as well as public and private partnerships when feasible.

Programs & Initiatves
FCC Program
- An FCC benefit program called the FCC Program works to make sure that households can afford the broadband they require for employment, education, healthcare, and other purposes.
- For eligible households, the benefit offers a monthly discount of up to $30 toward internet service; for households on qualified tribal lands, the discount can reach up to $75.
- If qualifying households contribute more than $10 but less than $50 toward the purchase price, they can also receive a one-time discount of up to $100 when buying a laptop, desktop computer, or tablet from participating providers.
Digital Equity
- At the state's digital services (Digital Equity) outreach meetings held this spring, hundreds of kansasns attended, organized by The Office of the Chief Information Officer (OCIO).
- All kansasns had the chance to voice their worries and suggestions for improvements relating to broadband affordability and accessibility at the meetings.
- A large number of kansasns are driven to learn how to improve their access to high-speed internet. Concerns were raised about the cost of digital gadgets and high-speed internet access in both urban and rural areas.
